Following completion of both his Bachelor of Dentistry and Bachelor of Medicine Degrees from the University of Sydney, Dr. Patrick Mehanna completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training in NSW. He was awarded the FRACDS (OMS) Surgery Fellowship in 2007 being the only recognised Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery qualification in Australia and awarded the 2007 Examination Medal for the best examination performance in Australia and New Zealand.
Dr. Mehanna has also spent 5 years in the United Kingdom (England, Wales and Scotland) for further training as well as completing a Head and Neck Surgical Fellowship. In addition to his Specialist Fellowship (FRACDS OMS), he also holds, by examination, a Surgery Fellowship awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of London (FDS RCS Eng) as well as a General Fellowship awarded by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS).
Dr. Patrick Mehanna is employed as a part time Staff Specialist at John Hunter Hospital and also consults patients privately in Wood Street Specialists, Newcastle West. His surgical interests range from dental extractions and implants to complex facial trauma, corrective jaw surgery and micro-surgical reconstruction and pathology.
He is an active member of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery community and has been an ANZAOMS Councilor, Chair of the NSW Regional Surgical Committee and Supervisor of Training at John Hunter Hospital. He also has presented at local, national and international conferences and has had over a dozen scientific papers published.
Dr. Mehanna has been featured in the Newcastle Herald (“Hunter Doctors at the Cutting Edge” 2012)
and interviewed for ABC TV (730 Report 2013).
